I know I know..our site was down (but hey…we finally made an online backup) and we only wanted to cover decks and the new york standard hotel doesn’t really offer that. Instead you can hang out on fake grass (how do you you call that in english?) and small hot tubs. But NYC is not LA and the rooftop party crowd is rather making money than hanging out with wannabee rich kids. The Standard Hotel is not a Trust fund baby hangout, but more a cool place to enjoy a beer and incredible views of NYC. And
When cleaning out my online backup folder I just found this cute little picture, which I always wanted to post here. What’s special about this townhouse is the fact that it is 2 floors, but has 2 cute decks. Both decks are small, but they are not the usual concrete or wooden decks. Both are on top of glass, which makes them pretty unique in the big Apple. Do you like it? Please comment! Picture credit: Apartmenttherapy
If you ever wondered what rich people do when they miss the country, but don’t want to move and deal with the Bridge and tunnelers…..then you have an answer here: A house on a house. Well…we wonder who that signed off, but if you miss a little farmhouse or a bit of lofty space in your 1823 building, then maybe this is the solution. More over at Dornob
We really really loves this outdoor lamp. No it doesn’t look like the fake luxury Indoor ones that you could order at Overstock. This one is real and it looks really good. Unfortunately we couldn’t find the producer and we don’t know if it can resist heavy winds, but yes it looks great!
Rooftop farming is hip and in Brooklyn, NY even hipper. Several farms are now working on growing their own vegetable, flowers and so on. I am myself very curious to see if I can get myself some rooftop farming going this year. I’ve tried tomatoes on the balcony and it was already a struggle to find the time to get them growing since the sun and wind are just very strong (we are located at a very high point of NYC). This year however, we’ll keep a close look on how the Eagle Farms in Brooklyn and
The amount of money that’s floating in New York City is sometimes just mind blowing. This 5 bedroom duplec with a beautiful rooftop + pool in NYC Tribeca neighborhood cost about $22 million. And yes it’s closed and sold already so keep the change in your wallet
If you haven’t heard about photographer Charles de Vaivre then you’ve missed quite a bit. He’s one of my favorite NYC photographers and his book is just amazing. If you want to see a few sample of his skills, check out his small gallery, which includes pictures like this one
Setting up new deck lightning can be a drag since it can cost a fortune or just not fit the style. We especially like also the Paver Deck Rail light, which could look nice if aligned right:
The word deck originated with ship building, where the ship’s deck forms a floor, covering compartments below the deck. This concept has evolved over time to also mean a flat wooden area attached to a building. Outdoor wooden decks may or may not have an attached partial-roof, but they are almost always elevated off the ground by at least 18 inches. Wooden outdoor decks may attach to a house, covering steep, rocky areas that would otherwise be unusable. Wooden decks can also be used on commercial buildings, for public outdoor gardens and dining venues. Decking is also
